1965 Ford Mustang Fastback

No wonder the fastback Mustangs are a hot ticket. We received a call from Clarksville, Tennessee one day from a service man from Fort Campbell that needed some help with his project. His 65 Ford Mustang Fastback was loaded on trailer and ready to go. We were more than eager to help on this project. Once back at our shop the car went for a sand blast to rid the body of all old paint and previous body work. That process uncovered and car that had a hard life probably being hot rod-ed in the early years before the value came way up. It was in a few accidents and basically the car was re-bodied and even put on a frame machine to re-square. Front sub frame had to be replaced and the decision was made to go with a Mustang II front suspension and non power rack and pinion steering. Out back a narrowed nine inch Ford rear drive was made up and coil over shocks were added along with torsion bar.

Once the body was fit with all new parts, the body work was finished and painted in the original Poppy Red Ford color. You will see this one coming for blocks down the road. The owner had a 347 small block Ford Windsor motor previously built and test run and opted for a 6 speed Tremic Transmission. Along with that came an explosion proof bell housing and a no non sense clutch and hydraulic throw bearing. The bad ass wheels he chose long ago now fit the body well thanks to the rear drive.

The car is now being assembled with has many original parts has possible for fit up purposes.

The 65 Mustang is now complete and could fall under a few categories of Resto-Mod, Pro-Touring, Drag Racer, Street Racer. The car was hand wired and sports custom gauges. The exhaust was built and then sent out to Jet Hot Coat for ceramic and polish job. Test driving proved to be awesome and the small block Ford really pounds out the power. With the clutch being like an on/off switch this fastback can burn the tires. With a set of slicks to hook up there could be air under front tires. You can see the original Poppy Red Color from a few blocks away.
